HBN Unplugged

HBN Unplugged is an entry-level wireless/ Wi-Fi security training course. With a strong focus on results, the course outlines three broad offensive scenarios for Wi-Fi hacking and then presents students with the background knowledge, methodologies, tools and thinking skills required to successfully breach security in each of those scenarios.

The course takes the student through wireless fundamentals including; antenna selection, radio radiation patterns, and network fundamentals such as TCP/IP and wireless protocols. The theory is kept intentionally short, with the rest of the fundamentals being explained as part of hands-on scenarios throughout the course.

Three scenarios are presented:

  1. Private Wi-Fi: How to approach hacking a residential wireless network where technologies such as WEP are discussed.
  2. Corporate Wi-Fi: How to attack corporate networks where WPA/2 technologies and attacks are discussed.
  3. Public Wi-Fi: An open coffee shop network where monitoring and interception attacks are discussed.

By the end of the course, students have a much better understanding of wireless networks, the associated security failings and how to exploit them.

Context

This course is the only course in the HBN that focuses specifically on Wi-Fi attack scenarios. It is an entry-level course because it assumes no prior experience with Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi hacking, although attendance of HBN Cadet or HBN Bootcamp would be beneficial.

Prerequisites

This course is designed for students who have a solid grounding in security assessment and penetration testing. Students should be well versed in basic programming or scripting, networking and Internet technologies, Unix and Windows operating systems, basic SQL and database technologies. Although advanced skills are not required, students without a good, practical knowledge of these areas will fall behind in this fast-paced class. Students without the requisite technical skills are encouraged to consider HBN Bootcamp. HBN Bootcamp and HBN Unplugged can be taken back-to-back.

Who Should Attend

Information security officers, system and network administrators, security consultants, government agents will all benefit from the valuable insights provided by this class. Penetration testers, red team members and analysts wishing to obtain practical Wi-Fi hacking skills will also find this course very useful.

Pricing, Location and Availability

This one-day course includes lunch and is available online, at your premises (in-house) or at local training centres. Courses are limited in number to 15 to allow for individual attention. Prices are available on request.

HBN Unplugged Edition is available at the Black Hat Briefings in Las Vegas in July 2012. Please see our training schedule, or contact us to book your place.
